I have a lot of cake books, etc however I really ennjoy this magazine because it is professionals and non-professionals showing their cakes. This means that not all cakes are ultra hard and you can get some really good ideas.

I can say I generally agree with the other 5 reviews prior to the date of this one. This book is a compilation of various authors' articles that have been published elswhere including in the Primitive Technology I & II (Bulletin of Primitive Technology), & Practicing Primitive by Steven Watts. Therefore the content varies from chapter to chapter some being more detailed than others. I particularly found the chapter on the Paiute deadfall & Whole-shoot Willow Baskets helpful, while some of the stories told were also enjoyable. The subtitle of the book "An outdoorsman's guide to Shelters, Tools, Weapons, Tracking, Survival, and More" is a bit misleading in that there is next to nothing gained from this book for shelters and I would take the survival part somewhat lightly. There are certainly some useful survival tips but as one reviewer said you wouldn't want to be stuck with this book in a survival situation. I recommend this book for people just starting with an interest in primitive technology or those looking for a summary or introduction to the world of primitiveness. It may also be of use to those looking for some basic instructions on basket crafts & pottery.

As always, this Melissa & Doug Product is durable and thoughtfully constructed. I love that this is the kind of toy that won't lose it's luster after christmas has passed. Kids will welcome the opportunity to paint all year long.

Easy to read, "nice".

I am giving it a 4 because I found the sections on hide glue and deadfalls quite good, a lot of space is dedicated to weaving etc.

Worth the price.

Subscribed in August, re-assured in December that all was well... got nothing. Canceled subscription attempt in January, was promised refund by middle of February. Still waiting. These people are a rip off.

This book is good if you want to just sit at home and read. It's more of a history lesson than a guide. I got about halfway through it and got bored and haven't picked it up since. The instructions are a little hard to follow if you don't already have a conception of what to do already.

I ordered the Deluxe Standing Easel for my 8 year old last Christmas. Out of all the MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE gifts that she received, she LOVED this one best!!! Honestly, she has played with it almost every day since then! It was easy to assemble and is very sturdy. She got an extra package of dry erase markers in her stocking and she has done art, played school, etc for endless hours. It's great!! I highly recommend it!!!

I'm a bit disappointed in this easel for one particular reason, which is that the whiteboard is not magnetic. (Edited to add: it does not claim to be magnetic though) IMHO, whiteboards are not especially practical for kids since most of the markers for them are not washable if they get on clothing etc, and if you use different (washable) markers on the whiteboard it can stain the board. Mainly my issue is that I just think that having a magnetic whiteboard would exponentially increase the usefulness of the board, allow magnetic puzzles and letters, or hold the artwork up on the board with magnets, etc. The plain whiteboard is not useful at all in my opinion. That said, my child won't know the difference and is likely to enjoy this easel anyway. I just think it is very silly if magnetic board is available, and it is, not to use that instead!

Also ETA, to be fair, this easel, esp on Amazon, is an exceptional value, my relative bought it at a retail store for 3 or 4 times the cost here! I would upgrade some of the "stars" here to reflect that, but you can only change the written review and not the stars, sorry!
